Is Indoor airPLUS a green building program?

NO. Indoor airPLUS is not a comprehensive green building program because it is specifically focused on indoor air quality. However, Indoor airPLUS is a companion label to ENERGY STAR and homes that receive certification are also more energy efficient. To improve the value proposition for consumers, builders can also easily incorporate the EPA WaterSense certification to reduce residential water use indoors and out to create a healthier, energy and water efficient home.

Indoor air quality is a vital aspect of green building - all green buildings should be healthy buildings. Therefore, EPA urges all green building program participants to participate in Indoor airPLUS. EPA is working with green building programs to meet shared goals, and major green building programs already incorporate some Indoor airPLUS features. For example, US Green Building Council's LEED for Homes program recognizes Indoor airPLUS qualification as an alternative path to achieving EQ credits toward LEED certification.
